Art & Fashion and 'Dream' Fashion Show - Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (Part3)

The Exhibition

(english/deutsch Einleitung)

When I was a kid I really didn't understand why designers showed unwearable clothing on the runway.
I usually thought why would they show something like that or said thats totally unwearable. I liked the artistic feel it gave but to be honest I didn't understand it. Since my Dad is a self-made business man, I would think likewise in a few points. Who would pay for something like that. Who would wear that and usually these were Haute Couture pieces and thats why usually very, very high priced. To sum it up of course totally useless. And of course the Press would just show some extravagant Pieces without explanation. Some Fashion Designers  just make crazy stuff was the usual view on them.
But my view on that changed.
As a kid I have been often in libraries reading books and often also browsed art books. Art got more and more a part of my life and was always around me. In highschool afterwards as a graffiti writer and now as a fashion design student. Now I feel really good at the moment doing my stuff , seeing and learning new things every day. Theres so much more to experience!

Power On!

(Sidenote: I think I'm going to write something about avantgarde fashion and my view on it in an other post)

Power On!

So now onto the Part of the exhibition.

I was so happy to see a few pieces, which I only saw online and in books like Rei Kawakubos - Comme des Garçon's 'Lumps and Bumps' piece or Victor & Rolf's Spotlight Piece from their 'Fashion Show' collection.

Comme de Garcon - Lumps and Bumps

Viktor & Rolf - Fashion Show

One of the favorites among the visitors was Victor & Rolf's chainsaw dress.
The ideas and how the designers translated them were a great inspiration for me. I'm so glad to have seen in person installations and art works from designers, I'd rather call them artists in that perspective.

Viktor & Rolf - NO

Walter Van Beirendonck exhibited also quite a few more Pieces and an graphical installation which probably shocked a few :D.

Walter Van Beirendonck
To name a few more Designers: Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan, Louise Bourgeois, Christophe Coppens, Naomi Filmer, Robert Gober.
I would have liked to see more of Margiela or Chalayan and more Works nevertheless it was great to go there. Some of them to be honest i didn't know before but I'll read up on them. We will be there one more time I think so yea it would be great to know more about them before we go again.
